We will be training the Minneapolis Police Cadets on Thursday August 7th from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM. Also, on Friday October 10th we will be training the new recruits for their first BKCI training session between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. As always, the gym will be closed while these classes are in session. Black Belts who wish to attend are always welcome and appreciated.
Effective 8/1/14 all Tuesday Night Hapkido classes at 6:30 pm will be advanced classes only. These classes will be limited to Green Belts and above. Lower belts will still have classes available Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Effective 7/15/14 all Hapkido Classes Monday through Thursday will change from the current 6:00 PM start time to 6:30 PM. We are making this change to make it easier on both Students and Instructors driving in rush hour traffic and to help with summer work schedules. Due to this change all open fighting or special classes will now start at 7:30 PM.
Just a reminder we will be training the Minneapolis Police on Friday January 31st from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Any and all Black Belts are welcome to attend and help out if they wish. Most likely we will start out with boxing in the ring and then practical Hapkido for law enforcement use on the main floor and on the mat after. This will be the second time this particular group has come in so it will be interesting to see how much they have progressed.
Please join us on Saturday February 8th to celebrate Bloomington Karate Center's 40th Anniversary and annual Holiday Party. Festivities begin at 5:00 pm and is open to all. We are planning a Pot Luck dinner and refreshments will be provided by the school.
Effective January 1st 2014 there will be two changes to the class schedule. Day classes on Wednesday at 12:00 Noon will be cancelled until June 1st due to lack of attendance. Day classes will be available again during summer break.
Starting 1/6/14 BKCI will be offering A Warriors Yoga class every Monday at 7:00 pm. This class will be free to existing members. The class is also available to non-members for a fee. The class will be taught by certified Yoga Instructor and Black Belt Mr. KC Giwa. We will be hosting the Minneapolis Police Academy on two upcoming dates. On 12/9/13 we will be training them in the ring in Boxing and Kick Boxing skills. On 1/31/14 we will be training them in Hapkido skills on the main floor. All Black Belts and advanced students are welcome to attend and help out with the training. We will begin at 11:00 am and be finished by 4:00 pm on both days.
As always, we enjoy working with our future Law Enforcement officers and look forward to it as a way of giving back to our community and supporting our Law Enforcement officers in general. Effective immediately all future tests will be moved to the second Thursday of every month. After much consideration we decided that Fridays were too hard for many Instructors and students to make and still keep weekend plans. There are now pre-testing requirments posted on the boards at the school. Please review these pre-testing instructions so you will know what is expected at least two weeks before requesting to test for higher rank. Also as always, the test day and time is posted on the blackboard in the corner by the ring.
On Wednesday June 12th we will be hosting the Minneapolis Police Academy. The cadets will be boxing in the ring as usual for the first couple of hours and then we will be on the floor for "Use of Force" techniques. The gym will be reserved from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm.
As in the past, we do this as a community service to help our Police be as well trained as they need to be to do their job. Any Black Belts who would like to attend and help out are more than welcome. Happy New year to all. We have made some schedule changes that I would like to post for the Instructors:
Monday: Mr. Bettes Tuesday: Mr. Mullin Wednesday: Day Class - Mr. Giwa, Night Classes - Mr. Legus Thursday: Mr. Saum Saturday: Mr. Chung We will continue with Black Belt classes but now on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm, for as long as there is an interest. I would also like to invite anyone interested to the open fighting available every Saturday from 10:30 am to Noon. I plan on having some interesting topics coming up for special classes in addition to inviting other Instructors in from other systems and schools to share their knowledge. Check the posting boards at the front door and by the throwing mat for dates and times. |
